Dumbfounded One

Trying to understand it all.

It Starts Here

I’m starting off this blog with something that is dear to my heart. Homelessness.

Some find it to be an inner-city cancer that can’t be cured. Others find it to be curable, with (what will take) a lot of time and effort. Take a look at this video, and decide for yourself.

Is this something we should address or let others worry about?

  1. When addressing homelessness, would it be fair to say that it is not the problem but rather a (all too) common symptom of a wide variety of underlying problems? I suspect part of the reason for the persistence of this very public failure of a society to care for its vulnerable is that there is no one solution that can be applied to address it. For real improvement in the lives of these unfortunates, a great many improvements need to be made in health care, social assistance, public housing, education, business incentives, and so much more. Homelessness may never go away entirely but lessening the number of those reduced to it will begin in earnest only when sweeping changes are made to public policies. All that’s required for this sea change is a groundswell of the public will, which is sadly lacking at present.
